To get a few more skills you may want to attend another course. These are a few ideas of those available:
Kilnsey Trekking & Riding Centre
Phone: 01756 752861.
Will offer forty minute or 1 hour treks in Wharfedale, and specialise in nervous riders if you fancy taking a friend along who is a little apprehensive. If you develop more skills they also offer hacks (these are rides in the open countryside) that offer the opportunity to canter; but you need to be confident on a horse before booking these sessions.
Arklemoor Riding Centre, Nr Reeth.
Phone: 01748 884 731.
Arklemoor is small and capable of working with 4 novice riders but can also cater from beginner upwards offering great progression. This centre is inspected and licensed by the Riding Schools Establishment Act, but not British Horse Society registered.
If you want to make transition from pony trekking to horse riding, there is no substitute for hard work. Find your local British Horse Society (BHS) rated stables and go and offer to help muck out, groom etc and in return you may be able to help exercise the horses.
The BHS can be contacted by phone on 01926 707700 if you have a specific query, but there is a database of centres available on the BHS website. These are a selection of local venues:
Belle Vue Farm Riding Centre, Fullicar Lane, Brompton, Northallerton. DL6 2RW
Phone: 01609 774719
Bogs Hall Stables, Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon. HG4 3QL

In addition, there are courses you can enrol on at:
Craven College, Centre for Rural and Equine Studies, Auction Mart Site, Gargrave Road, Skipton. BD23 1UX.
Phone: 01756 693910.
There is one horse riding club in the area, which is listed below.
Mid Yorkshire Riding Club: Based around the Leeds area, they can work with under 18’s, but you may need your own horse and ability to get to the start of meets.
The more usual way to progress in horse riding is to go and visit your local stables - see the entry under facilities for more information.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park App is here for iPhone and Android - click the relevant download button below.
Others coming soon - find out more at Go Mobile.
