The Yorkshire Dales National Park really is a special place for all sorts of reasons – its stunning landscape is the most obvious thing that people appreciate when they come here, whether it is the limestone formations or heather moorland, or the far reaching views of the fells.  But the landscape has been formed not just by the weather and glaciers, but also by the impact of people.  In fact many of its best loved features such as the stone built villages, the barns and walls that scatter the area and the hay meadows, have all been created by the interaction between the landscape and the people who live here.

There can also be smaller, less obvious things that people appreciate such as being able to sit and hear nothing apart from a bird singing or the fact that at night the darkness descends and the stars can be seen.

If you want to learn more about why the area is so special and how it is looked after then have a look at the Learning About section of the National Park Authority website.
