Trees and woodlands advice
The Trees and Woodlands Team can provide comprehensive advice on all aspects of trees and woodlands within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Young ash trees, St Joseph's Wood
Tree cover in the National Park is very low compared to the national average of about 9%. We have about 1.6% cover of broadleaves and 2% cover of conifer plantations. In 1994 the Dales Woodland Strategy was published with an aim to double the amount of woodland. Since that time a substantial amount of broadleaved woodland has been planted along with positive management of both broadleaved and conifer woodland.
The Trees and Woodlands Team can advise on planting trees as well as managing woodlands. We work closely with the Forestry Commission and Yorwoods in order to draw down grants and advice for landowners. We can assist landowners to draw up management plans and to obtain grants to undertake the work, as well as advising on suitable contractors to contact.
The Trees and Woodlands Team also deals with all protected trees as well as advising on trees associated with development. We can provide advice about the health of your tree, advice on work and assist you with completing applications. We can also protect trees, where necessary, by using a Tree Preservation Order.
