Sitting to the east of the National Park, within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Blubberhouses is the perfect starting point for a choice of easy or more strenuous walks around the Washburn Reservoirs.
Alight from the X59 bus from Harrogate or Skipton for access to Fewston and Swinsty Reservoirs (toilets at Fewston Reservoir on the Timble side of the embankment bridge - no other facilities) or follow the path by the river Washburn upstream to Thruscross Reservoir.
There is also a fine walk from Blubberhouses into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, over the Barden Fell Access Area via Rocking Stones to Bolton Abbey .
There is an inn (Hopper Lane Hotel) half a mile (c. 1km) west of Blubberhouses along the A59 – pavement access.
Bus times can be checked at the Transport Direct and Dalesbus websites.
Local services: pub, toilets
